What breed of dog do you own/hunt with for waterfowl?

The Labrador Retriever club of America, writes the standards for the American Kennel Club, for pure breed Labrador retrievers. They are the bottom line. So what they say goes, as far as pure breed, according to the major dog registry in America. With that said here is a link to their stand on, or more accurately against silver labs. http://www.thelabradorclub.com/show-contents.php?page=silver+Labradors
If this doesn't work google Labrador Retriever club then on their page do a search for silver labs. They are not for them and they are the authority for what is called a pure breed Labrador Retriever. Any other organization that is legitimizing them, is not the accepted standard by the overwhelming population. I can start an organization, and say my Springer is a pure breed Lab according to the, I made up my own dog thingy. But to the standard that is overwhelmingly accepted, she's still a Springer. If you like their looks and they do the job for you by all means get one. But know that they aren't really a pure breed Labrador. They may have papers because they registered the parents as chocolates or grand parents etc., and the AKC doesn't have time to come see if they are actually chocolate. Somewhere in their lineage is something that shouldn't be there. So in their genetic makeup is a gene or two that is not suppose to be there. Me I prefer to spend that kind of money that silvers are getting, on a proven lineage, of field able dogs that are going to be healthy and do the job and then some. No matter what you get enjoy them. Their only fault is that they don't out live us.

How are Silver Labs destroying the lab breed? I was under the impression that they were deemed to be pure bred labs?
Any time that you breed for something other than hunting ability you run the risk of creating puppies that have less hunting ability. Look what they have done to the goldens, you keep breeding for pretty and now most goldens are pretty, happy, idiots!
Having said that, I prefer my goldens to be on the dark red side for color, that they run like there feet are on fire, and with no quit in them... they are out there.

Had you asked me this 7-8 years ago it would have been simple...any pointer. Cut my teeth on pheasant hunting. My how times have changed....

Got my first lab 4 years ago and haven't looked back. For as long as I'm physically able I will own one. For all around versatility there is not a dog that compares.

My choice is the Lab,
I currently have a 5 1/2 yr old black female
Rudy is a NAHRA MHR, 1 pass from her GMHR
she is also a AKC MH
Rudy is also outstanding in both ducks and geese, we play the hunt test to stay in shape and she loves to play those games as well.
I had a 10 yr old bl male named Gage, Gage figured out in a hurry that the hunt test games were fake!
He only earned a working retriever title, but in all honesty I would put him in anyone's blind he was a retrieving machine and had no quit in him.
Gage was out of Lean Mac's son Teddy and was built like Dick Butkus!
I am at school for P/T Conferences and have no idea how to post pictures on here sorry!
Great looking dogs on this post and thanks for sharing

I mentioned in here that I got a chessie pup last year, we'll today was her first duck hunt. I was very happy with her performance.
She grew into a block headed beast.

That first picture is one of the coolest I've seen. Oh and the fact that it finds bone is BA.
