Anyone know much about this? What's the duck hunting going to be like this year? Other than the a slugfest for a spot.:25:
I have a couple buddies that hunt up that way and they haven't said anything about conditions (other than lack of habitat from high waters). As usuall it will probably be a slugfest until late season. I don't like to hunt it until late November.

I was down there with my little boy walking the dikes two weekends ago trying to see some ducks. On our way out the furthest dike (halfway down) this old farmer came out on a tracter with a srcapper. He said there was a whole in the dike and they sandbagged it up. He was heading out there to dig it back down or something he said and then fill it in. I want to say he said there were gofer wholes in it. Anyway, it was not leaking when I was there. It really wouldn't hurt my feelings if it did go down a foot or two in the past two weeks. The water was really high. Not going to be much cover for a blind in places where you usually may go. I would compare the water depth to be as high as it is in late fall or maybe higher. All the islands are flooded. Woodies sure should stack up in the flooded timber though.

After I read your article though I know right where they mean. These wholes they are talking about are in the levee up above the bridge that goes over the Maquoketa River right before you get to Green Island. At the bottom of that article it was saying something about them becoming wetlands. I think that would be great. Might actually be good hunting in some of them public fields one day near the entrance by placing some wetlands there. You would have them at least flying over thme fields to get there.

The wholes I was talking about were just little ones actually in the wetland dikes at green ilsand. Guess should have read the article first. haha.
