Birds were hammering hard on the roost yesterday from the reports I heard. Lots of youth success on my Facebook page this weekend. Congrats to those who took the youngins out and whacked some gobblers!
Ended up getting out yesterday afternoon, my cousin lost his baseball game so he was able to go. We went to a spot I have scouted a few times this year and have seen a fair amount of turkeys roosting in the evenings. Saw about a dozen, had a 2/3 year old Tom at about 80 yards with 3 hens but he didn't want to come into the decoys. He was a wussy, did not strut one time.

Heard quite a few gobbles. Fun to get out nonetheless. Gives us something to do next weekend since he didn't get one. Only my cousins second time out, he's seen well over 20 turkeys between the two times and bagged a nice bird last year. Very spoiled/lucky.

Happy hunting everyone.

It burns when I pee!
I'm no doctor, but you might want to get that checked out.

PS, you didn't get that from any fowl, but you might have gotten it from something foul.

You better order a few... It takes a couple tries to learn sometimes.
How many times did it take you, Matt?

3 scouting/listening trips this week and zero gobbles at sunrise. However, saw groups of turkeys(henned up) each morning by 7:30 way out in the open fields. Makes sense that males don't need to gobble as they already have their harem. Better make a bonnet of tail feathers and crawl up on them. At 76 I have an easier technique.

Good luck.

Yes, I saw those figures. Almost amazing but I have an opinion on that too. If you have read my stuff from way back or attended any of my classes you'd know that I don't approve of any youth seasons. Why not have a senior citizen season before the regular season? I'd probably would approve of that. Hell, the Bow hunters association won't even let us seniors take a buck deer with a crossbow. Anyway, I hope every one of those 700 plus youth PERSONALLY shot their turkey. All I do here is post what I see when I'm out. If that bothers anyone they don't have to read it. I wish you all success.

I couldn't get anything with the owl call this morning so I pulled out the ol peacock call, and the timber erupted with sound.

whats a good decoy setup for this time of year? i have all the avian-x decoys except the laydown
Personally I'd use a jake and as many hens as you have right now.

I tossed this together just in case we have to go to them if they won't play nice.

thanks bullcan.
im trying to learn as i go. 2 yrs ago was my first year turkey hunting and i shot a jake with a bow. i only seen a few last year on the property i hunt and they pretty much payed no attention to my setup
