I have seen Kaw Lake pissed off. There was one time inparticular, we were hunting the north end, "Bear Creek" ramp I believe. Going out we had 2-3' waves with spray at 6am (nobody was out, everybody waiting for day break at the ramp). Wowza as the day wore on, we had 5-6-7' rollers and we were in a 20' Flat doubel wide and deep with a 60 horse tiller. I'll tell you what, it was like surfing and hoping like hell you didnt get it turned sideways on the way in...

My condolences to the families involved.

It is unfortunate but hopefully a lesson can be taken from this tragedy. First responders were unable to locate any life jackets. I stress the importance of them to anyone I take in my boat. I always wear mine. Don't matter if you know how to swim or not, you fall out of boat in cold water with waders you are going to panic. As a former Navy rescue swimmer I have seen first hand lives saved because they were worn.

I received an area report nothing confirmed but thought I would pass on what I heard from a local. Chase was found frozen on the bank, Craigs dog was sitting next to his body just waiting. They supposedly went out at midnight which seems odd as there would be no need to do that at KAW. Rumor was they were in a 12ft boat. Sounds like a very bad mixture if true. SAD none the less. RIP!

It was confirmed yesterday that Chase was found dead with the dog (dog was still alive and stayed by his side until he was found). Craig has not been located. At this point, its a recovery mission from what I understand. There is almost no way he can be alive. Bad deal...real bad. Water is an angry beast. I actually think I get more afraid of it every year.

I knew he was found yesterday but I never heard some of the details about Craigs dog being found with Chase and I wasn't aware it sounded like Chase made it to shore, then froze to death. I agree it would take a miracle but without fire or heat there is no way. I agree there are times we should not have been out.

I was appalled when I was sent this screenshot regarding this accident. Reluctantly I'm sharing it here maybe to build awareness for just what kind of people there are out there who hate us as hunters to the very core. Sad deal, hoping for the best for all involved in this accident..

LIFE JACKETS!, LIFE JACKETS!, LIFE JACKETS! Guys if you own the boat it your responsibility to do all you can to ensure that whoever is hunting out of your boat makes the ride home. I sometimes get cross looks from new guys, but nobody leaves the boat ramp in my boat without a life jacket on, period. Just imagine facing your buddy's family if you could have prevented a tragedy and didn't.

I don't know why but I rarely wear a life jacket. Is it being stubborn, cocky, or in too much of a hurry? I don't know. No doubt they save lives and at minimum help rescuers find you dead or alive. These kind of accidents can happen to any one of us. Sad thing is I proably still won't wear one.

I have PFDs in my boat to be legal, but seldom wear them. Place wear I hunt I don't think they would do you much good. Water is only 12" deep most of the time. Worry more about getting tossed out of boat at thirty MPH, and breaking my neck. When running flooded timber on Mississippi during high water I wear one . 58 seasons duck hunting, I'll admit to doing some pretty risky things while on the water. Been lucky.

This guy is a loon; go check his page out. Evidently that vegan diet is lacking whatever gives one compassion for your fellow man.
