Take for example, the question of should the duck season be open more days in October than in December?

The north zone has a strong % of agree and strongly agree votes for that statement.

Honk&Quack

If you would like to see the info that Orrin used last year at meetings, visit the IDNR page and click on the waterfowl season summary pdf.

It has a # of pages of how each zone views the timing of duck season, etc.

If you strictly look at this information, you will see the battle that those of us that want later season dates are trying to win is one tough battle because the IDNR survey's and how they construct them, says otherwise.
I have looked at it...I want the numbers. I want the physical data. No offense but that excel spreadsheet and candy gram graphs are sophomore at best. I appreciate your post.

What do you think? Later season or not for the North Zone? I honestly wanna know. Plus Bill says he has the majority data. So I'm just doing my due diligence.

I dont have no in with brass. In fact I think the majority of them know its going to be a bad ordeal if I have to show up and playball. I just so happen to show up with a lot of like minded duck hunters who see merit in more opportunity, later dates etc.

Just remember to anyone who reads my shit. I many say a lot of things that rub you the wrong way. Its not done out of hate and may be a little condescending at times but what that does is elevate your own passion and desire to make shit happen. It dont happen if you just lay down a quit because you didn't get what you wanted quickly or right out of the box. It took us at least 7 years to get a damn zone change and an additional 4 more to get the zone change we should have gotten the 1st go round. But thats the game and we signed up to play ball to the last out. Long fight but worth the headaches and arguments.

Have fun. If it's worth having it isnt going to be easy!

Here is something to consider in your efforts to get to answer you really want to know. The IDNR has a list of those who buy a waterfowl hunting lic in the last 5 years. Get them to send you more than half of their own mailing list from your zone and use that to send those specific questions about later dates. Make it easy make it simple. Yes or No. Then sit down and begin to compile your responses. If you get more than a 10% return ratio you have enough data that can be scientifically utilized to present an argument for later dates. Or you can ask that in the next survey you would like to add your own question to the survey and use that data.

However I have seen the statewide data of the north and south and the ability for change is so narrow that it will certainly be hard to get anything done of relevance. That's just my opinion but I certainly do not bash on your effort.

Thank you and well said. can you post the majority data you referenced for the north zone?

@ honk quack

You're new here so I'll catch you up to speed on the question of whether north zone hunters want later dates. The subject has been absolutely beaten to death here over the years, hence why not many guys are responding to your relentless questioning.

The vast majority of the north zone hunters on this forum want later dates. There's a few guys on the forum that hunt the Mississippi that like the dates where they are. So there you have it.

It is truly mind bottling of the amount of some north zoners that I know who don't want later season dates. I do not understand how they are content shooting spoonies and teal all season long when there are large numbers of opportunities to hunt mallards up here well into December. Honestly I don't see the north zone ever changing to go to later season dates. The only way later dates would ever happen in the north zone would be zone restructuring such as the Gude zone or zones that took some of the larger interior rivers into consideration. Or hell change the damn boundary to highway 20 instead of 30. Maybe I am wishful thinking

Mikey- Orrin's Numbers and Graphs are severely subjective and not representative of an entire season or different hunting environments (ie. Fields or Rivers). They are simply numbers that fit the DNR's narrative. Kinda how there's no counts done after Dec 15th because all the refuges are frozen over and the birds are gone. Why is there not something similar to a roadside count at say (3-5 in the afternoon in most areas.)

I am all for bitching, but it seems like due to Bill Smith and some of our other efforts at the various meetings. The Waterfowl hunter of Iowa is making some progress. We are getting about a week later of hunting in all zones starting this past year. This next year we have the Mo River zone expanding all the way to the Missouri border. To me that's progress.

To expect everything to change over night is ignorant. Keep beating that drum and change will continue until the drum stops beating. I would not discourage people from attending any meeting related to the sport we love. Keep up the good work guys!

I contacted Orrin as soon as I saw that question on the survey, what a bogus question and it shouldn't ever be referenced.

Not one reference as to would you like more days in December to hunt late migrating Ducks.

Even so we could be Close to 1/2 and 1/2 not just 3 days in Dec. Unfortunately I believe DNR is still doing the seasons to make their life easier. Openers for duck and goose again on the same weekends!! Multitude of issues.

This is a problem. If they're basing everything off of public ground bird counts and public ground participation we might as well go right back to bed on the issue of later seasons.

And to what Wingsetter said, it is based on ease of use for the DNR. If it wasn't about ease of use they would have already implemented the Gude Zone, which basically puts the issue to rest.

Since I have the ability to hunt the south and the river zone I was hoping for more than three days extra between the south zone closing and the river zone. It would be nice to get into birds that are still around.

I am very sure I have been past that same ditch! and yes we have many Greenheads even further east then those in that picture !!!!!!!!!!
Dean
Dean I have no doubt that you have. That thing was covered on both sides as far as you can see.

The question you Mo River zone hunters have to ask is WHY does the Mo. River zone & south zone open its second segment on the same day.

I already know how to can the present 2nd segment start and put it exactly where it should go. mmmhmmmm
But I will leave that to others to argue.

December 24th. Would be the close.

But 1st you have to find out why the south zone and mor river zone second segment opens on the same day. GO
