guys we go every year and Mikie,Brent and I have been killn' limits every day this week. We hunted a new field today that Mikie found. We saw about 2000 + and they worked great.. Who says you cant kill them with no blinds, in a BEAN field with only 18 Bigfoots!!!!! here are some pics

A orange collared bird and a bird with a leg band and black tarsus leg band! Are freakin' serious?

ya we have seen 4 collared birds.. 2 white and 2 orange... and also seen about 15-20 tarsus bands.. !!!! it is on when the snow hits.. !!!
and in Indiana we saw 5 neck collars... all orange !!!!
gota love the migration..last year we had 5 birds that were double band reward bands killed.. all $100 !!!!

Was there a leg band on the collared bird? I can't tell for sure in the pic but it doesn't look like it.

ya there was .. as usual it was taken off before p[ics.. It was thin....
im trying to get pics of the ones we saw that were flying.. they are kool... these were here early season...Since Adam was here i didnt hunt them... Didnt want him to kill a collar !!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

So the leg bands come off collars before photos but you leave them on tarsus banded birds? Where are the black tarsus bands from?

ya sometimes.. just like henrietta... she got hers off as soon as she hit the ground !!!!!! and i have more but as you can see from the one of Mikie it was Very dark and my dam camera is junk... to many pics on a $150 camera.... neck collar was in winesk Ontario... others just said Cananda..??? i dont know where the yellow ones are from but i will make sure to take a pic for ya before anything is removed !!!!! :lol: :lol:
The band on the collar was 7 years old and about to fall off.. so i didnt even have to cut the leg....But hey ill try to get a new camera so i dont have to take pics in the shop and i can get ya some close ups.. and ill tell the guys even if they leave me the bird to clean i have to have the bands until i get pics for you guys.. This is why i havnt posted pics of out hunts lately !!! to many "PROS"

Also good thing i had the little video camera with me.. when i get my big one back ill post you a video of use killn' them and retrieving them.. !!! :lol: :lol:

OK so .. you guys got me thinking after i turned these in i just put in leg bands as that is all they ask for.. I researched tarsul bands and found out alot of people do them.. I dint know this as this is the 3rd one i have ever seen killed around here.. They use 2 different colors on them in the different flyways or whoever bands them.. White with black # for adult birds and Black with White # for juvi birds.. so this would be what i would think to be the
Ohio flyway but i have seen some Blue and yellow collars from Indiana before so who the hell knows... I have also seen a guy i know from Wisconsin kill Red tarsus bands this year that were done locally.. It should be interesting getting info back on this bird.. The orange neck collars are from Canada most of the time.. I have only killed 4 of these.... I have also seen and killed just bands with #'s on them... and still dont know where they came from.. also my buddy "Fergie" killed a double banded crow that they said was a hawk.. !!!! :lol: it had a green tarsus band on it.. Then i got the double banded pigeon bands.. green plastic and yellow metal.. then red metal.. both from racing pigeons in Indiana..

Sounds interesting. I saw a blue collar around here today and there was one spotted where we were hunting MO last week too. Saw a yellow/black letters tarsus band in Des Moines in the spring. Its the first collar I've seen around here in a long time. Sounds like you are in a good area for bands!

Tim still ALOT of bands and collars north of you but I don't think those birds ever migrate south to you!!! :lol:

ya i shot at a blue with yellow letter/# neck collar bird about 5 years ago.. we had 2 orange ones here last year for about 3 weeks.. i never got them but i hunted my AZZ off for them.. They are here every year and even 2 years ago i had a tranmitter here(double banded and transmitter.)
my goal is to kill a reward band or a duck band.. never killed either of those..

did have a live banded redtail hawk in my hands about 3 years ago.. SHould of kept the band !!!!

I;m confused about the reward band thing. You did or did not kill them last year?

Was there lead based paint in your house as a kid?
