Does anyone do much pond hopping or stream hunting down south central way? my dad and i had a lot of good luck with jumping ponds last fall and we were thinking of walking a few wooded streams, mostly mallards and woodies is what we've seen but i'm not complaining, anyone wanna weigh in on these not so standard methods??

I like to decoy more when I hunt. Like most, I started out pond and creek jumping in Eastern Iowa as well. Can be a good time and don't need any equipment but nothing better than mallards cupped up and committed!

When I am out pheasant hunting. I will pop a duck or a goose if I see one on a pond or stream. It pays to shot steel only.

It's personal preference. If you have fun doing it, great! It's not my cup of tea, but I walk around if things get slow and I'm not above popping a woodie jump shooting.

My only thought on it is that it makes ducks weary (getting shot at while roosted) but I don't really have evidence other than in areas where that happens a lot it seems more difficult to decoy ducks.

Nothing wrong with that I guess
I did that last year, but seeing ducks and geese cupped is awesome.
I normally set over decoys in the morning. If I don't have my limit by mid morning I don't think twice to start jump shooting pot holes, farm ponds, and beaver dams.

awesome just awesome guys, yeah my first duck hunting experience was walking to the parking after getting skunked turkey hunting a few fall seasons ago, heard some ducks snuck in and had our woodie limit in a minute, i think this year i'll turkey hunt in the early am, hit the ponds on the way to the car, and may even walk the fields for pheasant, we've seen plenty more down our way this summer, 3 different birds in one day?!? i think so, maybe ambitious but we've got enough whisky to convince us it's a good idea

Good God man! There are woman and children here.

I mean, I love watching ducks cupped up coming into the decoys too but never to that extreme
