Anyone been out trying some of the open water yet for eyes??? Think a buddy and I are going to try to fish the shell rock from shore tomorrow or wednesday or shove the boat across the ice into the open water channel on the cedar by waverly. I heard some of the boat ramps on upper pool 9 on the miss. are open so might have to go up there later this week or weekend.

Drove up to the Mississippi today. Crossed at marquette and headed north. Was locked up tite from Marquette to a little south of Desoto. Pulled into blackhawk park and the main channel was open but the boat landing was full of ice and ice from the shore out ten feet. Was going to head north and check out victory and Genoa power plant because I heard they were open but the wife wanted to get to lansing to some shops.............................

3 of us put 90-100 in the boat today, water was high ended up going below a dam, current is swift. Nothing over 20".

Nevermind, cranky me.
.

Not implying anything. Just asking a simple question. I know it is 5 here in central Iowa. I have never fished on the Miss., so I am just asking. I didn't figure you would post a pic, without knowing. Yikes!

I did look it up - daily limit 6 - possession 12.
Can't you take 10 Sauger??? Limit is 10 but no more than 6 can be Walleye???? That's the way it used to be anyway. Looks like a fair share of Sauger in the pic.

i do all my eye fishing in the boundary waters so idk this one. but what is a sauger compared to a walleye? how do you tell the difference?
Use to be is key phrase SBE. Now its just 6 of combination on the Sippi, only one walleye in the pic. Out of the 100 we caught only 3 were walleyes.

89 see the bloches on the sides of the sauger, walleyes don't have that, atleast to that extent. Also most saugers don't have that white tip on their tails.
Caught a limit 2 blocks from my apartment this morning, after seeing the pig that guy on IO caught I got a little over excited before I surfaced a damn 12 lb. sheephead
Fished blackhawk and the Genoa dam yesterday. River is still up a good 8 foot with the rollers completley out of the water. Fishing was tough though. Managed 2 eyes, 1 sauger, a flathead, sheephead and a carp. Only one eye was over 15 so they all went back. I think the river need a good couple weeks and it will be back to normal for the most part but that puts us right at the start of 2nd season turkey. Guess the eyes are done till late may for me now.
