Has anyone made their own ruff stands or something of the same likeness? After hunting my dog today I can definately tell he does not enjoy having to sit in the water under a patch of willows and I will not pay $180 for one, don't get me wrong, my dog rocks the avery emblem on everything I have ever bought for him but i just can't justify spending that on a ruff stand.

Ill make a you one from the finest pubic hair in all kazakstan!
Peope will spend $2-300 for a blind or two for themselves to be comfortable, but won't drop $175 so their dog is comfortable.

I know my dog deserves better than that-I'm guessing yours does too.

Not to mention you probably won't be able to construct anything as lightweight, portable and sturdy as the Ruff Stands.

He's probably right Gun, but I came up w/ something that works just about as good from stuff I had laying around in the garage. I'll shoot you a PM.

I knew that was comin, thanks Jake
I wasn't saying it to be a dick. But $175 for something that you will be able to use for years and will make your dogs life a little easier isn't a bad investment as far as I'm concerned.

I hope you get something figured out.

I agree that the investment is well worth it. Having your dog sit in the water is not a very good idea. Most labs are tough as hell but having them sit in water is the best way to lower their body temp and that can cause big problems. Its not that big of a deal this time of year but even when it feels warm out 45-50 degree water for a couple of hours is hard on a dog. Surely you can figure out a way to rig something up. I have seen guys make dog stands out of old tree stands before.
ruff stand

The ruff stands are only $155 on rogersportinggoods.com
Rogers has them for about 150-160 I think. I know it is a chunk of change however your best friend and hunting partner would do anything possible top please you, do the same for him. The other thing is the stand has many other uses as well for hunting and training. I think after the past 2 days I need one as well.

Bottomline is that if it will make my dogs life better or safer I am doing it. I have no idea how old your pooch is but you definatley would not want an older dog sitting in the cold water, especially thier hips and joints . It would be unbeliveably hard on them then. CHeck the other sites, Craigslist or call the Avery store to see if you can find a deal or a used one.

Good Luck bro!
you could always take your dog to maharishi and teach it to levitate...

sorry, couldn't resist
I'd think you could design something using either pvc or conduit pipe and then use possibily a chunk of wood as the top for a homemade Ruff Stand.

I enjoy designing and building things but in the end, some of those projects go to the garbage because I purchase the real thing and have much better luck with it. A layout blind is one such thing and the Ruff Stand might be the same thing.
If anyone has a plan for one or have already done it. FILL US IN!!!!!
