[1 shot kill]

I'm wanting to give crow hunting a shot. I've been once or twice before with no real success.

Any experienced crow hunters care to share some tips?

I shot a few last year with just a turkey locator crow call and a pair of crow decoys.

Find somebody that may have a deer carcass or birds-geese, pheasants etc...or a McGarbage bag:lol:

No but we had one of our best shoots over 4 pheasant carcasses and a little scouting. Deer work well to and some decent audio files with a few ffd dekes. We use an Avery decoy retriever to put a few in the trees and some near the dead pile. Mag extension and a turkey choke and #6 lead. Decappatated a crow at 15' that day and everything was working my side. It was a blast and got my barrel hot! Was a good hand warmer in between loading up

Thanks for the info, fellas. I have 6 fully flocked crows and an e caller. I was considering some silhouettes to bulk it up. A lot of stuff I read they talked about using an owl decoy as well. Any experience with one?

I had some go absolutely apeshit and I was just doing my best owl hoot with my voice.

You need to hide really well. There are times when I think blinking spooks them off. Fun stuff when it is happening and frustrating when the flight path is 200 yds away.

In the mornings we set out an owl decoy and a half dozen crow decoys the play an "owl and crow fight" cassette in a boom box. The crows come in fast.

Crow fight on the e-caller and a few decoys is about all you need. I put the caller right by the decoys. As mentioned, hide well. They come out of the woodwork and is funnier than than hell watching them come in. Stupid there is even a season on them. I dont think too many folks hunt crows..something to do when there is nothing else to shoot. Have fun!! Huff

That's what I was told also, but I'm not sure of that. We will usually get the kill bug when it opens back up and go stack a few up. Had a raven or 2 in the decoys once(I think...2 that were twice the size of the others) and let them pass

They have a season because they're migratory and Mexico wanted to protect them. I guess they're some type of official bird there.

If you aren't shooting within 1 minute of turning on the caller you probably need to move and move often. Sometimes 1oo yards will get you more shooting.

You have to stay hidden really well.
Those suckers can pick you out if your not camoed up.
When the stars line up,crow hunting can be a lot of fun.

Tried crow hunting last year to pass the time between honks and snows and it can be fun if the crows are around.

They just like to wake up and go fight :lol:

The 2 things that we learned is they can see like crazy so make sure not to move and if not much is around after you shoot a few, move cause they get wise to the e-caller quickly.
