Attached is a flyer with some information on the 7th annual Corey Baker Memorial Fishing Tournament Fundraiser, to be held August 2nd. Over the past six years, this event has raised and donated several thousand dollars to various organizations. The Corey Baker Memorial raises funds to support the community. A particular focus is on supporting youth programs and conservation efforts.

A few of the previous years’ recipients of proceeds have been Ducks Unlimited, Mediapolis Football Camp, Youth Wrestling Camp, the Mediapolis Little League, the Wild Turkey Federation, the Mediapolis Young Farmers Organization, Pheasants Forever, Green Wings (a program set up to teach and allow youths to participate in the conservation, restoration and management of wetlands and associated habitats), Boy Scouts of America, and the American Cancer Society.

Because of the support shown, we were able to hold our first kids fishing day in early May of this year. Even though the weather was dismal, the kids that showed up had a great time fishing a farm pond and watching the new hatches of Canada geese.

We have also established a college savings bond for the daughter of a young race car driver, Brent Slocum, who lost his life due to a racing incident at 34 Raceways.

In addition, we have set a goal to be able to establish an annual college scholarship for a graduate of Mediapolis High School.

Over 80 boats entered the 2007 tournament and approximately 500 people came throughout the day to get in on the activities on the bank and enjoy themselves.

This event is not just about fishing, it's about celebration, about memories, about a reunion of people that some only see once a year and about sharing stories.

This is why, because of the flood, we decided to stay true and hold this year's event. We hope it will be an opportunity for all that have been impacted by the great flood of '08 to clear their minds, if for even only one day, of what they've been forced to think about each and every day since the flood. People can come for just the afternoon if they'd like to welcome the fishermen safely back to the banks and to enjoy the raffle and live auction events.

There is no charge for food and drinks and, other than for those who want to enter the tournament, admission is free. ALL FISH SERVED WILL BE PRE-FLOOD FISH. Open donations are welcome.

Thank you for your consideration and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like more information.
