i hear that in order to not have trigger avoidance there are certain ways that you should bend the wires on a body grib/conibear trigger. i always bend them into a v for muskrats or a diamond depending on the condition......how do you guys bend them?

It depends on what you are trying to do.

If you are running 160's or 220's for **** then IMO the best configuration is an upside down goal post. If you are trying for otter then a circle trigger is a must. If you are trying to avoid otters or trying to catch beaver in 220's or 280's then twist both wires together and move the trigger all the way to one side. Muskrats is doesn't seem to matter much, but if you are still running 110's in runs then I suggest you look into colony traps. They are much faster and you can really clean out a marsh or pond with them.

If you have to worry about how to bend trigger for 'rats you have bigger problems. They aren't exactly a smart critter.

ya i have some colonies but i just like the 110s and i mean really who doesnt have a great memory of trapping with them ...i saw this guy on youtube who bend his into a circle he said he could tell the difference i dont know weather thats true or not but from your feed back im not going to try it.

It might make a difference on mink, but 'rats are just to fat and clumsy that when swimming thru a 110 they can't help but hit the wire. They don't try to avoid the wire either.

I run my 110's for muskrat and mink. I personally have all of my conibear triggers bent into either a goal post configuration as mentioned earlier or more of a circle shape. I never know where my 110 conibears will be going, so I just plan for either situation with the circle shape. I have seen improved catch rates on mink with this trigger shape. It doesn't really matter for muskrat though.

tanner i can help u with trapping bud ha making colony traps are the easiest i think and knowing where to put the traps is key.
