I'm a fan.... have used them now for 5 yrs. I can't really think of a downfall with them.... I got the medium size so I can still run an outboard if need be. Installation is VERY important... you need to have the right angle to achieve the max performance. They work great for dogs getting in and out of the boat... and you for that matter. I also like the fact that they help w/ back splash from waves... doesn't take a very big wave to crash over a 15 inch transom on a mud boat. The pods seem to break the wave early. In performance I wanted them just for the fact that their added floatation offset the weight of my longtail.... it helped w/ the plane also.... I'm glad I got them, and I would put them on another boat again.

My dealer, at the time, put them on, we have a few dock builders around here that are more than capable to intall them.... I think any guy that works w/ aluminum should be able to knock it out.
I think some boats have a rubber seal or gasket between the transom and the hull which can be damaged when welding pods on. You might want to look into this before welding.
The big thing with pods is that you do not want them flush with the bottom of the boat. If you put a straight edge on the bottom of the boat your pods should angle up slightly. That angle should equal the angle of bow rise you have during a typical acceleration.

The reason for this is that you do not want your pods to act as a break while you are trying to get on plane. If you think about it the more rise you get in the front you will drag more in the back if the pods are flush. If you have enough HP this is not an issue, however, most people are putting pods on to help in planeing the boat.

When we do pods we set that at 3-5 degrees.
They are great

I've got these on our 16ft Lund SSV for 5 years now and I love them! I had them mounted at the Fisherbeavertail factory just outside of Minneapolis and have never had a problem with them! I think they really help the performance of the motor and boat.
