I think it's the gear dog where it goes to forward & reverse in lower unit. I fixed mine on a old Johnson 18hp 30 years ago with a dremel tool.

Going to need a bigger boat / New hunting partner!!

Our new baby....Abe R. 9 lbs, 9 oz and 20.5" long. He was born on March 4th at 7:17 p.m. The wife and I have now limited out on kids:) Glad to now have 3 hunting partners that'll someday take me.
