Finally seeing some snow geese. Actually more than some. Unfortunately they are not at all interested in working. Head for the big open MUDY fields. Great to watch but nothing to bring home. All appear to be adults which is normal. I'm going to rest for a couple of days and wait till next Monday. Biggest flock I saw today was about 2000 and they flew all around northern Polk county probably looking for water. They were over Ankeny about 2:30 heading west. Did have mallards and pintails working my spread today. Big flocks. Neat in the sunrise. I suppose next week we will have a blizzard.

Howard, you might want to check Sundays forecast and rethink waiting until Monday! Just saying.

UNI: actually I prefer the cooler weather as the birds hold up migration and you can pattern their feeding [patterns and benefit from that. Plus many hunters stay home. Was going to go tomorrow but there are boy scouts camping in the area I hunt. Spring break. The forecast doesn't say any rain and that's what I need because one of the fields the big flock is using is very very wet and soft. There is one very small area the farmer didn't till up and I think I can get to that with a few good decoys. Huge flock is using it and if they come in I will not shoot as they would never come back. Should be able to get some singles or doubles on young ones if I play it cool. I passed shooting a tornado of snows one day and when I got back to the road here was a bunch of little ol ladies from the local ornithology club watching. If I had shot I'd probably would have gotten murdered by those little ol ladies. This way they got some good viewing and pictures and of course, so did I. This weekend should be at least good viewing of the migration.

I hear Ya.. I was speaking in reference to the wind direction though ;)

Ive been working in Osceola over spring break, and the skies are FULL of them down here right now. I mean FULL. Most are high flying. Im no snow goose expert (never hunted them) but after glancing at them through the bino's they appeared to be about 90-95% adults. Very few were white. One flock was headed straight north when I saw it? The other flocks were all headed south. Seeing all these things around here makes me want to get on some!

Took a trip to southwest Iowa over the weekend and after getting a picture from a buddy on Friday of the location we were going to be hunting, had high expectations for the weekend as it was covered up.

Saturday started off with the birds feeding in our same field but on a hill top and attracted the flocks coming up from the south. Ended up being 10-15k on the feed. Managed to kill a couple in the morning. Decided to take part of the spread up to the hill top for afternoon feed hunt. Wind died on us but had a good spin going but they lost interest and headed to different part of the field and than it was over for us after that. Managed to kill a couple as they flew back after feeding. Lost a lot of the birds mid day that went west of our location so not sure if someone jumped the area again or not.

Sunday the birds returned to the same area but further SW of us and we didn't see hardly any migrators. Morning wind was calm for much longer than expected but finally started to howl at 10-11ish. Managed to kill a couple in the morning. Started picking up the spread at 1:30.

Waiting for the juvies to show up one of these days now.

Lots of birds in ND. Just have to drive a lot to find them. Kind of that whole drive 50 miles find nothing, go another 5 miles find piles. Go another 100 miles and not see a thing.
