Re: Wood or acrylic or mix

I am a fan of acrylic myself. Wood definitely has its place though. All depends on conditions and what works for you. If the average caller does their homework they should be able to leave their calls at home and do just as well (if not better). I happen to be below average duck and about average goose ( IMO). I just try to do enough to get their attention and keep myself convinced that I "called em in" haha.

I voted acrylic, but I like my Coco and poly double reed Otter.

I have quite a few calls, both acrylic and in coco. Some tuned loud for wind and open areas, others are soft and quiet for close stuff. I usually start with a loud call to gain attention, and then switch to a softer call for finishing. Just depends on the situation. They all have their place.

I love the sound of wood calls but the ones I've had I have to refinish them about every other year. Just sold my last all wood duck call that had use. Still have an all wood goose call that has been refinished and put on the shelf and replaced a wood barrel on another with an acrylic.

Well as for me I use a lot of different calls. I have wood acrylic poly. I use many of them except the poly carbs. It my favorite at the moment is my teal call that I got last year. It is small and just a different sound the many others that I have. It is also wood.

I have both wood and acrylic on my lanyard, both duck and goose calls.

In general, if I want a softer, mellow sound I'll use the wood calls as they dont seem to have the loud sound as acrylic calls do in my opinion on how I have my tuned up.
