Default This season was the year of the farm ponds

If you came to Oklahoma for any of the big lake hunting you found them woefully lacking for ducks. This was the year if you didn't have a farm pond lease you saw a lot of days with no ducks. I know my favorite lakes well and this is the first year I have been skunked on a couple of them more than one time. Lots of water, good crops and those temps that locked the ponds with ice just never happened. We are also holding way more geese all winter than we ever imagined possible and it is screwing with the ducks. The refuges are holding lessers, greaters, snow and specks all winter by the hundreds of thousands. They seem to be crowding out ducks on some lakes. My favorite mallard lake has gone down hill steadily as the goose count has risen. It may be time to make Canada season MUCH longer as our year round geese are building large numbers too. JMO and thoughts after a perplexing season.
