Default You never know

when life is going to throw a curve ball at you. I drive a lot for work and I haven't had an accident for 40 years. My biggest fear has always been the other driver. I am always in condition yellow. I have seen numerous accidents coming or about to happen and have always been able to avoid them.

not yesterday. I was on a black top in NW Iowa going East. I saw a school bus pull up on a gravel road on the left. it stopped at the stop sign and then pulled right out in front of me. I figure the bus was about 50 to 60 yards away. I locked the brakes up and started sliding. I steered the car to the right and tried to take the gravel road corner which was putting me parallel to the bus. but when I hit the gravel the forward momentum was too much and I caught the side of the bus with the left front end just in front of the rear wheels on the bus. that hit caused the back end of the car to swing around and the left rear of my car caught the rear of the bus. that hit spun me and threw me into the ditch. the air bags did not deploy. the severe sideways hit bounced me off the inside of the drivers door. Shattered my clavicle. Duck and pheasant hunting is just starting to get good and I am out of the picture for at least 6 weeks. My Iowa duck season will be over before I can hunt again. still waiting for an opinion on surgery and pinning the bone back together. three kids on the bus. all ok. the turn to the right kept me from T boning the bus which I figured was going to be a worse event for me and it probably would have caused a kid to get hurt. the car was totaled.

so, the moral of the story is live life to the fullest because you never know when something bad is going to happen. I figure that I got lucky.

it could have been a lot worse.

thanks guys. saw the first DR yesterday. waiting to get into to see a surgeon to determine if I need surgery/pinned until you lose the loss of a limb you don't realize what you can't do. I can't run the skid steer. need manure loaded and spread. the wife will have to do that. can't run a chainsaw. can't split wood. can't throw a bale of hay. and of course the big one can't hunt.

Now I know how Dean was feeling this summer.

you guys shoot an extra duck or two for me while i

a couple of the buddies are already talking about that. I can still call and run the dog and eat breakfast in the boat. I will probably do that

and I am thinking a road trip to KS in Jan would work out just right.

and I hope it works out for us with the snows this spring. I am reading reports that there are lots of juvy Ross geese. I like Ross geese they decoy really well over water and having juvy Ross's would be even easier. Bring on Whitey !

And BTW, you all need to "look up to me" now that I am famous. they had the wreck coverage on IPR and KCCI today and tonight.

Actually it was because there were 11 kids on the bus. I only had heard about three they were the ones that went to ER. I didn't get to see much after I got out of the car they had me in the ambulance pretty quickly.
