Post Thank you To All who played a part in the 3rd Zone Struggle

It seemed like a long battle for a 3rd zone but in truth it was a blink. I personally wish to thank each and every duck hunter who supported a 3rd zone concept. You guys made it happen, no question about it. Again it is proof that if we stick together, the best we can and maintain our position and commitment to the issues at hand, we can and will ultimately prevail.

I also would extend a thank you to all the NRC members for making it happen as well.

Another big Thank You goes out to our state Waterfowl Biologist who had his work cut out for him from day 1 when he took the job. The accomplishment and direction speaks volumes to duck hunters across this state that you are willing to listen, willing to engage and try new things. I tip my hat to you Mr. Orrin Jones.

To the rest of the IDNR who has made this possible, I am not sorry for who I am but I am damn glad who your are and the job that you guys do.

That includes you to Willie, we shall meet again.

Congratulations to all. You made it Happen !

The most days to hunt ducks, the most opportunity on the calendar and a Full Teal Season. Period. Bam now lets get to kicking some ducks ass.
You cant ask for much more than that but to win the lottery.

Great work Bill. Now for stage two. If we could develop more Wetlands along the Big Sioux river and get it included into the Missouri River zone, with more and better boat ramps on it along with a joint use with South Dakota like they have with Nebrasaka, Iowa would have another area for our Waterfowler's.
We could fund it with the Land Transfer Tax like Tennessee and improve wetlands throughout Iowa.
Also if we could get the Feds to build a waterfowl refuge some where on the Big Sioux about half way from Sioux City to the State line of Minnesota to hold some birds in this area. A area that is way under utilized IMHO.
Yes working on Conservation never ends and thanks for your endless work on behalf of Iowa Waterfowler's who have a chance to utilize them if they choose to.
Thanks again Bill.

Iowa does have a Refuge up on the Big Sioux, up around the Akron area. What has to happen between here and further north is they have to be able to put water in those chutes. 99.9% OF THE TIME THEY ARE DRY COME WATERFOWL SEASON. Shameful

I am on it Bullet. The wheels of reason and the application of common sense sometimes is very hard to obtain. You understand.

Yes I have been by it but never saw any water or waterfowl there. Yes water would help. Maybe a dike and pump. The boat ramp access needs improved unless that has changed since I moved 17 years ago

Keeping and adding to the current waterfowl habitat has to be a top priority.
I understand about the dollar issues but somehow the leaders of this state need to listen to the 70 plus percent who have already voted to give the state more money for conservation issues.
Have a great fall hope we can have a decent waterfowl season, I will be back from work in SD so Bad dog and Mr Bill stand ready!
All the best to each of you, remember if possible get the kids involved in the outdoors.

Dean as I understand it, how things are politically shaping up on that subject you mentioned, you / WE will be lucky to get a dime of those revenues for that of any habitat. Political powers outside the IDNR are working and have been for sometime 7 days a week to secure those resources to shit down a rat hole they have no intentions of fixing in the 1st place. The very second FB gets its hands on the bulk of those revenues its game over. You will see more money wasted on shit that doesn't help or assist in fixing the problem. Bank on it. What you guys know of the funding source and how it was to be allocated is not what it is today and by the time any money hits that program it will entirely be something that you had no idea of. Just be prepared to be disappointed. You haven't heard to much about IDNR habitat restoration or other as it relates to that potential funding source now have you? However if you been paying attention they have been talking a lot about environmental related issues as it relates to Production on the landscape. Not to say I want it to happen but I cant wait to see the look on everyone's faces when what they thought was going to be is not remotely close to what they signed up for or wanted to see happen.

You guys have been warned and if your not following the political shifting attitudes as to how that money should be spent or how some are planning to use that money, now would be a good time because sooner than later your going to have to face the problem. The longer sportsmen wait to say anything the harder it is going to be to change the outcome. Just when you think you have the voice , you end up being nothing but a speed bump in their path to piss that money down a rat hole.

Rem you should see that sob in December. LOL

Snow geese, honkers and shit loads of ducks. I can take you to the north side of that SOB and sit back about 2 miles maybe 3 and watch the show. The sad part is those birds dont show up until Late November or that second week in December to which the north zone duck season is over anyway and the river up there is traditional froze like a rink. The 2nd part of that problem is most of the ducks and geese drop out on the south Dakota side of the river into the big flats and valley areas. Which is why I get my SD license every year. lol

I use to Deer hunt up northern Loss Hills for first Shotgun Season and every year had flocks of Mallards just buzz the tree tops where you could hear the wings.
Yes the Big Sioux Valley could really become something with a later season and habitat.

Check this out, I was sitting on the rim of the Big sioux sd side, I looked north on the Iowa side which if you look to the top of the Hills was a good 1/2 mile. I saw this monster of a deer run up the side of the sob.
