Question Idea to help fund some who seek controlled hunting on state waterfowl areas.

Hey guys I am just going to throw this out there as a thought but I have spent a lot of years traveling and hunting the flyway and in many cases if I was going to places like Ark or MS or a few others did you know to hunt some of thier WMA you must 1 purchase a WMA permit or it is an associated fee when you buy the lic. some require it on thier Top WMA areas why other states require it to hunt any of thier WMA areas.

So my thought is this for those who seek to have controlled hunting on a few key waterfowling areas in Iowa. Why not let's say pick the Top 10 Iowa WMA for waterfowl and associate a WMA permit fee with that of like $20 dollars or some shit. The revenue collected from that would help pay the cost of staff at those facilities or the daily draw operation with your suggested shutdown time.

Just throwing that out there to see what your guys thoughts are on that as a means to pay for the controlled operation. It would I think help resolve a few issues for sure and improve your guys experiences out on those facilities.

What say you guys to the matter? Such places like Odessa / Riverton.

Other states do this and its not just confined to this flyway by the way.

Good thought, but what's going to stop them from taking the money and run just like our habitat fees now?

I sometimes get the impression the Iowa DNR (at least my local area) is not interested in making money or receiving donations if they have to lift a finger. Unless it's maybe in the tens or hundreds of thousands then it might be different, but it seems to me that they are content with being toward the bottom of the barrel when it comes to $$ received from the state.

Hemi that is not entirely true about the habitat stamp revenues. The portion of the fee that I helped achieve is protected from all other sources of spending or allocation of other. It specifically has to be utilized as match or of the like for habitat restoration, enhancement and acquisition. The other portion of that same fee is also protected for specific use as a source to enhance habitat on the private landscape but all said acres must be open to public access. No ands, no ifs and no buts about it. The original portion of the fee has been chewed at from many directions that it some cases doesn't have anything to do with an ounce of habitat.

I just put this topic up on the board because I have seen how other states in the same flyway account for WMA areas and we don't.

what i can tell you is that you can write in specific protections as to what and how those revenues are to be used. Earmarks. I have been working the past few years on development of a few new ways to increase some resources.

kind of glad the wheel turns slow as some in opposition to us sportsmen buying any land have shown thier tactic and now I know how to make those in said opposition eat a little crow.

Yea, let's take some of Iowa's best WMA's and make them even more worthless... Another stupid idea.

You can take the draw system idea for the state of Iowa and throw it in the back of a dark closet. No thanks

I dont care 1 way or the other, just throwing this out there for those who sought to return some areas back into a controlled hunting facility.

Dont know exactly how making folks buy a top 10 WMA permit who turn areas into a shit hole. However it the measure does have the ability to address the financial issues the IDNR claim to have in the operation of a controlled site. Cost.
