Duck season in North Dakota and Iowa North zone have the same closing date of December 4th. Season closes North of HWY 30 the same day it closes on the ND/Canada border. Something doesn't really seem right about that... |

Different Flyway for starters. Each flyway has its own set of federal guidlines they have to base there seasons off of.. Number of days, limits, ect.. |

Yea I understand we're on the edge of the Mississippi/Central flyways but it doesn't seem logical that my duck season is the same length and dates as a guy hunting over 500 miles North of me. Common sense would suggest that Iowa should be open later than North Dakota but common sense doesn't always rule the day. It's a very simplistic way of looking at things but sometimes decisions aren't as complicated as the bureaucrats would like us to believe. |

It's been discussed in the past. It's more about when guys want to hunt vs migration. Guys don't want to hunt waterfowl during shotgun deer seasons. Chalk up another season on missing out on late season fat mallards while the rest of the state is getting their shit together and adding weeks. Que the you need to travel for your ducks band.

North Zone MN: 9-24 thru 11-22 That is two weeks earlier than Iowa N zone right?? I guess I don't follow your logic of comparing apples to bananas... ![]() |

Thanked: 474 times | ![]() Yep I'd be really pissed if I lived in Minn. closing before Thanksgiving would suck. Everyone that actually works at hunting waterfowl knows it closes to early here. Since the majority of hunters are Opening weekend hunters they think everything is just peachy and DNR says that's good for them(Surveys)! I've been to almost every listening session the DNR has had. No one is asking for earlier every area is crying for later and it falls on deaf ears.

However, ND gets 74 I believe so it would be hard to say when their season dates would be set if they had 60 like the Miss flyway does.

I'll give you a different perspective. I hunt as long as I can, but I still lose out on days because of freeze up every year. Hunt while you can, ND is in the same boat that I am, (other than a couple bodies of water.) Guess I'm thankful that it's a liberal season again. Shoot straight.
