Default Honor at the caucus

I believe that we live in a great country. In fact the best country in this crazy world. When I'm out in the field and or duck blind I often find myself reflecting on this. I also find myself reminding my students of this often. I also tell them how I find myself taking it all for granted to often. Tonight I was reminded of this again as I said the pledge, and listened to the opening prayer. When it was time for another speaker I was honored to hear a Medal of Honor recipient speak. It was a great reminder that I live in a great country with thousands of individuals who gave it all to make tonight possible. He said he was not a hero, that he did it for his country. God is good and he created great men and women who dedicate their lives for our country. My prayer tonight is simple. A prayer of thanksgiving for all those who made our democracy possible. The highlight of my night wasn't casting a vote. It was watching my 66 year old dad a Vietnam veteran tell a Medal of Honor recipient that it was an honor to meet him and watch my dad stand at attention and salute him.
