Go with a size that's a hair bigger than the stakes.

Never tried it, but I'd think a concrete bit that you'd use for drilling Anchors would do the trick.

Longer regular type of bits or longer auger bits are what I've used in the past so you don't have to bend down as far. Still sucks as most of the bits are still 1' to a foot n half long.

Silo' punches like the one Bullcan posted probably won't be much help if the ground is frozen pretty good unless you take a hammer to it. Seems like those are better designed when the ground isn't too frozen..

Slide hammer punches like RealGeese makes will work good in frozen ground but quite a bit of work to do the #'s of a snow goose spread.

Best advice, find a standing stalk field and put the stakes in the corn stalks.

Thanks for ideas I made one of the sliding hammer types last year and was a ton of work.in the past we have put decoys in the stalks with success only if the field your have permission on has standing stalks and weren't mowed in the fall really looking to know if we should try masonry type or wood/metal

Harbor Freight has 25" long bits……they come in a 3 pack and I think I paid $20. I used the 1/4" to drill holes for about 600 White Rocks last weekend. The bit worked perfectly but need a guy following to plug decoy after you drill. It works pretty good but does take quite a bit more time.

The longer bit is absolutely key…………….bending over sucks with a shorter bit unless you are a 20 something!!!!!!

It did work well. Was able to drill for decoys and flier poles and put out a pretty decent spread with fliers.

Good luck.

PS………..wait til it warms up. The effort will not likely be rewarded. We killed 4 birds in 2 1/2 day of hunting this past weekend. Saw bazillion birds but all educated 25 year olds!!!!

Looks like you can add another 12 inches to the length with this.
