Default Gift for a trapper

With Christmas coming up, thinking about gifts for the family. My 28 yr old brother got big into trapping this year. We're both outdoorsmen, and I would like to get him something trapping related/functional. I was thinking a high grade skinning/fleshing knife? Or does anyone have suggestions for a trapper

Alot of it would depend on what he traps. Does he trap water or dryland. What does he target?, coons, coyotes, rats, etc.

If he finishes his fur. Some coon boards. Dog proof traps if he goes after coon. A skinning machine is nice. Really depends on how much you want to spend

I got the groomsman in my wedding a buck110 with their names on the blade.

It was oregonknifeshop.com....prices w. name was cheaper than a 110 at cabelas if memory serves correctly.

They have a buck trapper and large trapper. $23 and $25. $5.95 to engrave.

Or I would say a good sharpener....those trappers would have to constantly being having to resharpen a blade I would think.

Great idea! That's exactly what he needs!

I know he runs sets for coons and rats. I think he has snares and colony's for the rats, and conibears for the coons. I know he plans to try getting some beaver...ha

I would steer away from the fleshing knife, but a good knife that has replaceable blades would be a great gift. I would recommend a Baracuta Blaze.

If you want to go the trap route, I suggest Freedom brand dog proof traps. I'm picky on the type of footholds and conibears I run and I'm sure he is as well. Anybody would take some dog proofs though!

Other than that, some other ideas are insulated gauntlet gloves, a high quality catch pole, or trapping instructional videos.

To make it easy get him a gift certificate. He can get what he wants or needs that way. Cumberlands or Minnesota trapline products would be a good place to look and both are great people to deal with.

Setters for 220's or 330's if he doesn't have them already, Dog proofs if he runs a land coon line. Or pick the easy way out and get him a gift certificate to The Snare Shop. They are an Iowa company, have pretty much everything I've needed and speedy.
