At first, I thought that you were in the wrong flyway!
When I hear Platte River, I think of Nebraska.
I know my buddies down by Omaha really got into them last year.
I can't wait to make a trip down there this year.

The Platte isn't much of a duck river. I'm sure you can find some early season woodies and mallards. If in Platteville, you probably will be spending most of your hunting near Potosi.

watch out for the landowners and the local hunters, they will try to run you out of there.

I'm guessing you are thinking about the platte because it is just north of town, but around here most of the hunters go up to cassville or hunt out by potosi,I know of one person who tried to hunt the platte and it was a complete bust. Most of your action will be out on the mississippi. Get a good look at a upper mississippi wildlife refuge map and know the closed zones around potosi and you'll be in good shape.

Is Potosi more of a reserve type area than a hunting area?

The Platte has a bunch of woodies where we have land but not a whole lot else. The Miss is usually a better bet but very crowded at times mostly the first couple of weeks of season. Im from around the Potosi area so if you got any ? don't be afraid to hit me up.
