I don't know if anything is technically set in stone until Aug. 12, but here is the article quoting the dnr waterfowl specialist.
Change in store for Minnesota goose hunters

Article: http://www.startribune.com/sports/ou...3aPc:_Yyc:aUUs
The biggest change to affect Minnesota waterfowlers this season will be the advent of a 85-day regular Canada goose season, with a three-bird limit.
An interesting developement: A new goose hunting zone likely will be developed around the city of Rochester, said Minnesota DNR waterfowl specialist Steve Cordts, and hunting there likely will be split into two seasons, with shooting probably allowed until the first Sunday in January.
Meanwhile: one canvasback will be allowed daily all season, two pintails daily and two scaup (bluebills). Mallards will continue at four daily, with one hen.
And they are not sure yet if 2 or 3 Woodies. |

| I'm telling ya, Iowa is going to pull the 3 bird ticket. Feds gave us the opportunity last year and we dropped the ball. |

I'm a little slow. Are you saying they will or will not allow 3 birds? |

| I find it iteresting that they are claiming the EPP is in such good shape, yet the past 15 years they have been screwing with different zones allowing 30 day seasons with 1 bird limits to protect the EPP. |

| link didn't work for me so I don't know if this is in the article or not but... I thought the whole flyway had the same regs. So how can Minnesota have their own? Am I just missing something? |

Sounds like changes going on in alot of flyways. Nebraska had their first meeting today, looks like they are trying to get an 8 geese/day early season and 5 geese/day regular season. Sounds like they are trying to get a 2 day Speck season in the spring with 1 speck/day limit.

A week ago you guys wanted a 2 day early, that we're not going to get because additional harvest pressure would likely cut into our Iowa breeding population, something none of us should want to do. Now you think IDNR would go to 3 birds?
That'll add significantly to the harvest, and remember unlike ducks hunter harvest has a major effect on goose populations.
If our goose pop in Iowa is stable under the current amount of harvest we simply can not afford to increase harvest. |
