Default Newbie

Hello to all. Obviously I am new to this forum, and I am new to waterfowl hunting as well. I have been "reading from the wings" on this forum since February, and found it full of information, so I elected to sign up. This is the first site like this I have ever joined.

I have been in the construction industry since I was 14, and have worked at every level possible in commercial and institutional construction. Also did a stint with a Civil Engineering firm and a stretch with an Architectural firm. I have managed projects from $500 to $50 million, but now I am a "superintendent hired-gun".

I was a serious pheasant hunter in the 90s, but the sharp decline in birds and a relocation to an Iowa metro area put an end to that hobby. Luckily I no longer live "in the city", but ailing feet keep me from chasing roosters anymore.

I have been a shotgun deer hunter since the late 80s, and I gave the stick-n-string a try but I don't like tree stands. I've never shot a wall-hanger, but enjoy pursuing whitetail very much.

My greatest love is predator calling. I have taken a very large number of coyotes over the years, and a handful of fox. I have yet to call in a bobcat, but have been transitioning my calling to finally make that a reality.

This spring I took a trip to NW Missouri in early March to hunt snows with an outfitter, and within my first 20 minutes in a layout I was hooked. We didn't have a ton of success, but the experience was fantastic. I am now researching a blind for my 16' Alumacraft Waterfowler (current fishing boat) to get into waterfowl hunting full time this fall.

I am even going to try my hand at turkey hunting this coming week during 1st Season, I've never done that before either.

I also bought a few turtle traps last weekend, put them out in a few farm ponds on Wednesday, and much to my surprise one of my traps held three nice snappers on Thursday.

The kids are out of the house and my new found "freedom" has me re-focusing on all that Mother Nature has to offer.

Welcome, I have only been on here awhile but a lot of good information from the years of knowledge those on here have. Once Waterfowl season gets closer it is great to get knowledge but even better to read the "opinionated discussions" and you'll learn quick that when its said places are holding 30,000 it may be closer to 30 and vice versa lol Great entertainment! Oh and Teal season threads are great too!

Thanks for the welcome, and same to you as well. I can talk predator calling until I am blue in the face. Shoot me a PM with your number.
