They will probably put out maps for the season like normal. Not sure they will be the best set up to shoot the park geese and the geese will figure out where the safe zones are fast.

I just want a chance to hunt by quaker oats, that would be awesome!! To bad they pry don't consider those geese a nuisance though.

I heard the mayor on the radio talking about how the city also was proposing a round up and slaughter during the molt. The kwwl story neither confirmed or denied it.

This does seem like a joke to most of you that live up there. I don't have a problem hunting closer in side the city as long as it is safe. If you do find the spot to hunt I'd love and invite.

^^^This would suck^^^ might as well just consider hiring Jeff Foiles; he's familiar with hunting park geese and could probably use the work.

I'm sure it will be something like the other metro areas that allow hunting in city limits. Field size, proximity to houses/structure and things like that are usually factors in where you can hunt. Cedar Rapids is way behind in getting this done! That said this is definately no cure to the goose problem.

If they're going to do that they should let guys with retrievers do a little training on them. A one day season at Quaker Oats, Noelridge Park, and Ellis Park would eliminate 90% of the geese.

They've done the round up and slaughter in Des Moines before, so don't be surprised if they do it...early a.m. when very few people are out there to see it. If questioned they will say they're relocating them. It's easy to tell if they actually did within a couple months. If birds show back up they relocated. If not, they went to the food bank...this will be like every other metro area public hunt. A shit show

The fact she said geese will go to feed needy leads me to believe they will round up and kill plenty

That was my thought as well. The only thing tho is that they said "shotgun use in rural areas". Who knows what they will come up with.
