Well I can tell you this. If Riverton was holding 38k, I know on December 5th I was under 40k plus if not larger than 60k plus. I took pictures of the shit and there is no doubt as to my location it was Iowa. Out of curiosity I checked the reported counts from Dec 4th. I about ^%^%N fell out of my chair. 3200

I immediately went on a ^%&^&^N rant TO THE POWERS THAT BE and make NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT, IF ANYONE REMOTELY TRIES TO FLOAT THOSE erroneous BULLSHIT NUMBERS IN AN ARGUMENT, THEY WILL BE EATING CROW. You do not miss that many birds in a location when you have to drive by them to get to your traditional counting area. You had to be ^%^%^n lost or no clue to have missed that shit.

This past weekends deer hunting activity drove them out and so they are scattered from here to hell in all the flooded fields. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone took a ride to Owego wetland area and saw thousands or up k12 to another NAWCA location and found thousands.

I hope all you guys who's season is over or about to be over start shooting some small clips of video of the masses of ducks in your area along with something that could substantiate the date. Send that shit to me.

I applaud your efforts and am in full favor of later dates...but what is the point of showing them videos of what they all goddamn well know is out there? They're not blind, they just don't give a shit. Season is over in the north and they could give two shits less how many ducks are here now and what will be coming the next time a front pushes through.

Again, I am in total agreement with you that they could, and should, very easily be able to tweak the dates to make december have more days. The counts this time of year are always a freaking joke, just like you said, but they aren't suddenly going to go out of their way to make counts that support changing anything that doesnt fit the agenda.

Where I was, there were more duck hunters Friday than Saturday. I would imagine most of them were deer hunting because everyone did well Friday. I got there at 3am Saturday figuring there would be more hunters and they would be there earlier.

The only good thing about the current weather is that the ducks we got last Tuesday/Wednesday should stick around until the end of it. Mix a little sunshine and wind in, might have a couple good last days. I'm not sure what kind of ducks are around, but the males have these really bright green heads. They sure are pretty and there's plenty of them.

I was on the water last Thursday, Sat, and Sunday. I couldn't believe the number of other boats out. On Sunday the marsh we went to had 3 other rigs there at 4:40 a.m. when I got there. there hasn't been three other rigs there all season. Oh well, we still got a good spot but the birds were tough to finish Sunday morning. very weird. and the fog didn't help in seeing them until they were right on top of you. I think it's great to be able to boat hunt in central Iowa in December.

the info serves as a good argument prop. I have always felt that as long as you had some sort of proof to substantiate your verbal claim, your argument had a little better standing than just a verbal of an individual. You can't argue against what it is your looking at without making yourself look foolish.

Around my area, we got a BIG push of new birds...too bad season closes tomorrow. Also, there is still PLENTY of open water! Truth be told, I don't think I know of a frozen pond where I am (Des Moines metro). Would love to see the season go another month...or have a two weekends in January.

Plus it's a Ducks Unlimited report. Not a report from some crazy hillbilly from NW Iowa

I wondered if the season closes a week later than what it does now, how long it would take before the suggestions started flying about keeping open even later.

Funny, I was always told that deer season killed late season hunter numbers not lack of access and lack of birds. We get mid Nov. weather and open water during a mediocre year and hunters still come out to chase ducks. I know my conclusion....

The difference is the season is still open where the big wads of birds are to the north and west. Pressure isn't getting many of them moving south. Just as warm as we are. So you can't always say it's because the ducks figure out the days they get shot at. I think if a guy gets 30 hunts +/- and there is fresh birds relatively often and not have 3 weeks of stale birds, it would satisfy most. But you're correct, there are many that would like to hunt up til Christmas. I'd go for that in a heart beat. Open water or fields there's ops to get some shooting, if you do some leg work...

Too many lazy azzes that just wanna go hunt a spot cause it produced in sept or Oct and are pissed when there aren't any birds there. Weather and the ducks needs change as the season goes on. And they get used to seein the same 2 doz dekes set in the same j hook pattern with 2 spinners, they just go elsewhere
