Default Some advice needed

Was hunting last night and our lab Abbie made several retrieves in some heavy cover and this morning her one eye is swollen shut. She charges hard.

Is there much vet will be able to do? Drops?

Thanks

Eyes aren't something to mess with and seem to almost always require a vet trip. If it is swollen clear shut I would make the appointment today. I check and flush eyes when we finish a hunt as my older dog has a tendency to get debris in his eyes. He's gotten seeds clear on the back side of his eyeball before and they had to knock him out to get them removed. I've had both seeds and a corneal scratch cause swelling but I've never had one completely swell shut so I'm not sure what to tell you there. Sounds painful.

if you can get her to hold still, maybe 'gently' check to see if there is anything in her eye. I know early season, my lab got some debris in his eyes and they watered for a few days. We did end up pulling some loose seeds and other pieces of brush out. I went to the vet and they did give me some drops for allergies to put in his eyes, and that helped too. Hopefully it's not cut or anything.... (might be worth a trip to the vet just in case.)

Take her to the vet. Could have a scratched cornea or something lodged in her 3rd eye lid that needs removed. Happened to my dog 2 weeks ago - she was in some serious discomfort until it was removed.

I believe it was you that made fun of me for the Doogles? If I remember correctly you said "This is why dogs bite people". I can let you borrow my pair if you're interested?
All kidding aside, I hope your dog is doing well.

Seeds in eyes are a common when running in tall cover. Best way to avoid the vet is check the eyes by peeling the eyelids back after each time in the field. If you catch them early enough you can pick them out with a finger or blow them out.

Sorry for the delay... Vet said an allergic reaction to food or an insect bite and since one eye versus two swollen shut yesterday morning most likely an insect bite on that side of her head.

So she gave her a steroid and antihistimene shot along with some additional antihistimene pills for the nest several days. Good news I thought, could have been a lot worse.

Last night her swollen eye was about 75% open, ears both still swollen, but playfull and didn't seem to be any pain.

Thanks for the help everyone!
