Default Duck hunting in Texas?

I live here in Iowa and wanted to try something new so I decided to try out the hunting in Corpus Christi bay near Port Aransas, TX over this past weekend. Awesome experience! Ducks everywhere...lots of redheads, wigeon, pintails, etc. Never seen anything like it before. Killed my limit 3 days straight in a short amount of time. This was the most intense hunting experience I've ever had. Hunted with Hired Gun guide service. Reasonable rates and they are very good at what they do! They don't have a website so if anyone is interested, respond to my post here and I can get u hooked up!

Might be moving to Austin soon and was curious how the hunting was on the coast. Are there any spots where you feel you wouldn't need a guide and that are public?

Adam07....Where I hunted was all public hunting. There are a lot of blinds set up out there and obviously belong to someone, so I don't know how they feel about someone just jumping in them. I do know you need an air boat to get into any good hunting areas. The water is very shallow in areas and if you don't know where you're going you can really mess up a boat and get lost.

He charges $150/gun/day. If you have your own decoys, dog, etc. the price is cut in half and you are paying for the boat ride to and from, and use of a blind basically.

If you want his contact information, let me know and I can get u hooked up with him and he can give you all the information you need. Let me know!

Almost the entire Texas coast is public hunting. And they have well-run WMAs all over the place, that closed at least three days a week, to give the ducks a rest. I had 4 WMAs near my home in Port Arthur, the biggest is McFaddin with 60,000 acres. Open Tuesday/Thursay/Saturday/Sunday. If you're in Austin, the Colorado River WMA where it reaches the coast is pretty good. Lots of snow geese, too. We camped on Matagorda Island WMA for years, hunting it before the public ever heard about it, back in 78-79. All the big reservoirs are free hunting, too, though they only have a few stumps left, these days.
