That probably depends on whether you want to fight a crowd or not.

It's been covered. Hunting is not a factor in pheasant populations. Info is on the dnr website if you don't believe me.

Starting to see some flocks of migrators but shot mostly local birds and teal yesterday. Should have went out this morning but relaxing today so I can hit em hard again this weekend. Hunted 6 out of the last 8 days anyways.

^^^^^^
I have also hunted the last 7 nights straight seems to be a small increase in mallard numbers beings you couldn't hardly find one last week. The numbers are so few though they are sitting right in with the locals on the refuges right away.

Sad part is its just about as cold here as it is up in Saskatchewan right now I don't see any weather models right now that are going to make a drastic increase in birds anywhere in the Midwest in the near future.

No I believe you... its more of a guilt thing to me. I hunt waterloo to dubuque, not much around here. Its like saying shooting hens(ducks) is going to hurt the population. Hunters contribute to such a small percentage of birds kill ratio... should have worded it better. Just very few, like I said, around my parts....

also you said its on the DNR website it must be true

Should I expect there to be a lot of people at the marsh?

More birds today in N.E. iowa, not many but more than i have been seeing the last couple mornings and nights. Still a ton of woodies around but starting to see more mallards, divers, and those ugly looking spoonies!

I'd be happy to shoot my limit of roosters this weekend if we can kick them up - like Condn said, killing the roosters has no impact on the population or breeding success.

If you feel guilty, volunteer on some habitat projects, plant some natives, find a PF chapter who is making a difference and spend money at their banquet......... all will have a much greater impact than not killing that ol rooster creepin down the fencerow.

Not to be a smart ass but, it is a public marsh in Iowa isn't it?

Most of Iowas Waterfowl come from the Dakotas so I don't pay too much attention to Minnesota birds. However the numbers they provide compared to last year tells me that the migration is behind slightly, not sure if that's because we have had many fronts push through or not.
