Post Changes for 2013 Waterfowl Season

Well, from what I seen last night a good number of duck hunters suggested taking 3 days off the early season and putting that to the end of the second segment which would for the 1st time Open the second segment on a Weekend and Close on a Weekend giving duck hunters an added weekend to finish out the season strong. I think its a good move and in some ways compensation for those Supporters of a 3rd zone that got shafted and I think giving duck hunters that added weekend at the end will make a difference in participation as most or the majority of waterfowlers have a 9 to 5 job and miss out on those last 3 days that would traditionally close during the week.

However I will say this. For ALL Duck Hunters who wish to see that Happen, you have to mark your calender for Aprils NRC meeting and show up and advocate for those 3 days and explain why its a good shift.

Keep in mind it is only 1 year / season and if Iowa obtains those 5 to 9 Teal Only season days changes will certainly be discussed anyway in 2014 as to how best apply those days to structure a season and the use of the split. Will be a vital tool to have if we are faced with Moderate or Restrictive season structures.

Anyway from what many of us know, taking 3 days away from the North Zone early season isn't going to happen at least Not under the present limitations ( No Teal Only Season ) The highest probability for success in moving 3 from the early season is the remaining 2 zones. The South Zone & Mo. River Zone.

As stated south zone duck hunters would pick up and Extra Weekend and the Mo. River Zone would pick up the Christmas Holiday period where a lot of folks come back home for the holidays and could hunt with friends and family.

Another thing that Stu Maas brought up and I think is very valid and I know I never thought about it or asked. But many of Iowa farmers love to waterfowl hunt ( Duck Hunt ) They miss a great deal of the early portion of the season due to Picking beans in October and early November most times, then from that point its balls to the walls finishing up corn which puts them dang near to the end of November and then they are out doing field work and really don't get an opportunity to hunt ducks until December why they are out trying to shoot geese in a lot of cases. I think by having that added weekend at the end will certainly improve a lot of participation and give a lot more guys the opportunity to finish out the season strong.

Like I said, Hope to see you all at Aprils NRC meeting.

God Bless and Keep Your Powder Dry.

Wallace Building 4th floor March 14th 9:30 am NRC meeting at 10 am you have public participation period.
At this meeting the NRC is to get an update on this weeks Waterfowl Working Group meeting held this past Wednesday.

Anyone going to attend this?

The next meeting is April 11, 2013

Strongly advise the NRC to work on the Gude 3rd zone proposal with in the Iowa Waterfowl working Group. Advocate, Advocate and ADVOCATE!

that would be great to see the 3 days taken off the early season and added to the end. More weekends to hunt gives more real hard working people who work mon thru friday a chance to hunt later with that added weekend.

My biggest beef is how is the working man suppose to take off from work to attend a meeting during the day?
The DNR folks get paid to be at these meetings, the NRC folks who were appointed have the type of jobs that they can miss.
Real folks cannot miss a days wages!
Thank you to those guys who can attend these meetings.

dean thats a very good point... but they work for the government. I don't think they care if nobody shows up. Its wrong, and it should change, but if you are holding your breath, I would recomend you stop before you get some brain damage.

bill- thats a step in the right direction. did it seemed well recieved?

This is what gets me, the they don't care's.
Why do you think they take those job, the money, the fame, all the great things people say about them??? No I have come to the conclusion they take those jobs to piss the 40% of you off
How much you think they make a year to go to work and listen to all the people sit out here and in meetings and complain that their ice cream is too fucking cold. Really where does it stop. I don't think there has been or will ever be a meeting that pleases everyone.

But to sit here and say they take a job, not the highest paying job in the world that comes with great public critical comments for all their hard work from all the arm chair biologist most of whom don't even have a 2 year degree and bitch how this is managed and that blah blah but to say they dont care,,,what is their driving force for those job? I wont even get into the ones who are still in school, I want those that are going into Conservation to report back in 10 years and let me know how things are going.

If you ask on here how many people would take Guy Zenners job for 100,000 a year who on here would do it??? Not freaking I... Never ever would I be able to sit still why most of you sit out in the AUDIENCE and do this.
All the bitching about the DNR just gets old sorry for the rant but get off you ass and do something about it.....

Oh BTW, I think some/most of the DNR staff are salary workers I could be wrong but there day might have started at 6am and it was 10 or later when they got home.

I get the weekday meetings but again how many of you want to work weekend if your boss whats them too, only to sit there and get lashed on by 1/2 the group no matter what because someone is always pissed off.

Then if it IS overtime thats a whole nother issue.

A 5 day early spring season would be nice, birds are all in full plumage and looking nice and haven't started nesting yet.

My thought would be to this middle week meetings for the NRC is that the Very 1st meeting that is set to discuss waterfowling dates or other should be Held on a Saturday. Generally it the meeting in April. Then the next meeting that should be held on a Saturday is the June meeting.

Public participation on the first and public participation on the last or June decision day.

I dont know if more guys would show up but I would try it and see.
