What was it like to find birds, get permission................any info would be greatly appreciated. like to take my 2 boys but the fees are pretty steep. I know they have a short season and w/equipmeent, scouting.........there probably worth it but my budget will not allow it. need to do it on my own or not at all. Thanks guys.

Anyone can hunt mallards, but you have to be born a diver hunter. You have to really, really love to hunt ducks to deal with frozen outboards, rough water, and the hard work it takes to hunt divers.

I havent been to either but as far as permission in ND unless it is marked no hunting, you can hunt any property. |

Been to ND several times. As you have read if the land isn't posted you can freely hunt it. If it is posted land owner info is on the sign. Most will give permission with a call. I've hunted Minot, Drake, Mucluskey, and Harvey areas. All hold good bird numbers. Motels are not too bad. Will have to do some driving to find the birds it is a good time and most times I can shoot more birds there in a week than I can here in a season.

You might wanna stay away from minot area. The oil boom is at full speed. You probably wont be able to get a motel anywhere near there. Its a nice place to hunt. But Jamestown is closer to iowa and the birds are plentiful around the end of October. Its north dakota birds and water are eveeywhere. But choose whether your gonna field hunt or hunt the water. Its alot more easy to pack and you dont have to trip over unused gear.
